Holguin native Marlenys, everlasting commitment to Holmeca

The Mechanical Company “Héroes del 26 de Julio”, located in Holguin province, stands out for its work on the manufacture and commercialization of agricultural equipment and implements. There, among iron and other metals turned into machinery, Marlenys Barzaga Rodriguez, a woman whose bond with Holmeca is based on gratitude, works there.

Although the beginning was hard and challenges are still part of her path, she took every opportunity to grow professionally in a field mostly occupied by men and, therefore, life gave her a future full of experiences in the same place she now calls home.

“More than 35 years ago I graduated from the Technical Institute of Holguin as a mid-level technician in Metrology of Mechanical Magnitudes and here I did my practice. Like any young inexperienced woman, I tried to accumulate as much knowledge as possible and focus it on promoting this industry.

“I am now retired, but thanks to the reinstatement I can continue to work as a consultant. It fills me with satisfaction to continue supporting the factory in a situation as difficult as the current one, because ensuring the effectiveness of internal control is no easy task.”

Commitment beyond challenges

Her performance has not been without challenges; however, her exceptional resilience in the face of difficulties has led her to find creative solutions to foster growth in the midst of constraints.

“At a certain point, the company had to leave available workers. In that case my function, someone else could perform it. For the first time I felt afraid of losing the job to which I had given my best years of youth.

“However, I began to account for accounts payable and receivable. From then on my goal was to prepare myself relentlessly to master the terms. To achieve this, I studied accounting on my Saturdays off,” said Barzaga Rodriguez.

Over the years, Marlenys has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to the factory. Her vision and focus have been fundamental to the success she enjoys today. She has also become a role model for many of her colleagues, who admire her for her leadership and dedication.

“For me, Holmeca is not a workplace. It is my second home, my family. Here I found a community of people who are passionate about their work and that motivates me to excel. I can say that I am proud to be part of it,” he said.

Her sense of belonging to the “Héroes del 26 de Julio” Mechanical Company is indisputable, but her work goes beyond numbers and accounts. This outstanding professional was founder of the Ceremonial Battalion of Holguin, has worked for more than 25 years as a lay judge in the Provincial Court of the territory and for that she has been recognized in dissimilar occasions.

Today the institution where she grew up looks different and so does she. Holmeca recently reached 42 years of creation and for Marlenys it is a source of pride to be part of its history, inspiring many young women to perfect their skills and demonstrating that gender does not limit the opportunities for success.

“Holmeca has a bright future ahead of it. I am committed to continue working hard to take our company to new levels of excellence. With everyone’s unity, we can achieve great things,” she concluded.
