University programs with special requirements continue in Cuba

In the current academic year, the courses of Journalism, International Relations and the six courses of the University of the Arts (ISA) will continue with special requirements.

To opt for these studies, applicants will take aptitude exams and will be ranked according to the results; in these cases, there is no requirement to take and pass the entrance exams in order to grant the degree to the selected applicants.

The incentive of granting a direct career, without taking entrance exams, to twelfth grade students who are members of the national pre-selection to the international olympiads and winners in international competitions, endorsed by Ministry of Education, is maintained.

The requested courses related to the discipline in which they compete is granted in the university they wish, to study it both in Day Course, as well as in Meeting Course, as a way to enhance special requirements.

From the updating of the economic and social model that our country has projected, to grant to the municipalities and their governments the necessary decentralization that allows to give solution to the contradictions that are synthesized in the municipality as economic cell, the entrance to the Cuban higher education has been planned a change in the scenario which must be developed in the next courses.

Accordingly, an experiment is being carried out in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Villa Clara and Holguín. The aim is to change the admission process from an absolutely national approach to one of greater territorial participation.

The courses proposed to be managed provincially and controlled nationally are: all those in the area of Medical and Pedagogical Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Accounting and Finance, Computer Engineering, Law, Industrial Engineering, Sociocultural Management for Development and a group of training programs for Higher Technicians.
