The General Teaching Hospital Vladimir Ilich Lenin is indispensable, highly significant, necessary, since almost all people from Holguin, at some time of one’s life, have had to go to this hospital, to the emergency ward, the ambulatory care or just walk past the giant it has become.
Health services in the province of Holguin cannot be conceived without it, as well as its long and fruitful history that began on November 7, 1965, when it was inaugurated by Fidel Castro Ruz, thus becoming the first one in the Eastern region built by the Cuban Revolution.
Since then, it has been distinguished in the field of health for having led unique events in this sector and for its significant contributions to the open abdomen technique in abdominal surgical sepsis and for having successfully performed the first corneal transplant there.
This work has become enduring and essential both for those who have accumulated more experience and years of dedication to this center and for the new generations that guarantee the relay, as expressed by two young surgeons currently working there.
Lenin hospital, as many of us usually call it, advances at an accelerated pace, recognized for its surgical interventions, the constancy in the Intensive Care Unit, distinguished by its Territorial Oncology Center, demanded by the maternity, one of the largest and most complex in the country; eminent for the work of the Cardiology service and notorious for the work in the attention to the infertile couple.
Although there will always be indicators to improve, the goal will continue to be to provide a better service to the population. It is 58 years of uninterrupted work that set guidelines for its numerous work group to continue committed to the health of the population of Holguin.
