Etecsa’s Holguin Territorial Division has completed work in the municipality of Antilla related to the company’s gradual shift in its energy mix. The installation of 32 solar panels is part of efforts to sustain telecommunications services amidst energy constraints. Which have been exacerbated by the current energy blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
The installed panels provide a power source for the company’s technical sites, extending the duration they can remain operational. The estimated runtime is around nine hours. Therefore, this serves as a backup power solution with specific limits. Rather than a fix that eliminates the need to manage energy consumption.
Alongside the installation, measures are being implemented to optimize service. One such measure involves disconnecting the 4G network during the early morning hours and restoring it at dawn. This approach manages available energy usage during periods of low activity. Also it is part of the broader set of actions accompanying Etecsa’s gradual energy transition.
With the work now complete, users in Antilla benefit from improved access to the services provided. The company stated that these actions aim to increase the availability of the technical sites that support these services. The improvement relates to the ability to keep these sites running. Particularly in light of challenges caused by energy supply issues.
The project in Antilla is part of a broader initiative that Etecsa’s Holguin Territorial Division aims to extend to all municipal seats. The company is working to implement these alternatives as quickly as possible.
