Since early 2026, the “Ciudad Alumbrada” (Lit-Up City) project has been underway in the municipality of Antilla with the support of local economic actors. This initiative aims to promote street lighting powered by renewable energy through the use of lamps equipped with photovoltaic panels.
Throughout the year, MSMEs, self-employed workers, cooperatives, and other representatives of the non-state sector have joined the effort. All seeking to explore the opportunities offered by this new proposal.
Moreover the goal is for each economic actor to benefit from this technology. Not only to protect their assets but also to contribute to a better-lit and safer city.
Yenifer Guzmán Ramírez was the first to install this lighting at the railway terminal where her cafeteria is located. Today, she shares her experience and highlights the need to adapt to new forms of renewable energy to improve her small business’s visibility and help illuminate one of Antilla’s busiest areas.
In this regard, Municipal Mayor Carlos Alberto Rivero Xiques noted that the Municipal Administration Council provides guidance to those wishing to apply for loans to purchase the equipment.
“We also coordinate with banking institutions to prioritize service for those who have already advanced the necessary paperwork. It is about supporting them through this process, from which we all benefit. Thanks to these efforts, 35 lamps have already been installed, and 27 more are ready for installation. Most are located in the municipal seat, though the aim is to reach all seven districts of the territory,” Rivero Xiques specified.
Although the path to implementing “Ciudad Alumbrada” is not easy. Collaboration among all economic actors is essential today to overcome any barriers that may arise. The willingness of Yenifer and other self-employed workers to lead change is an important first step, but much remains to be done.
