Health Stories Shared with Fidel is a series of testimonies from Holguin residents, healthcare professionals who shared moments, anecdotes, and experiences with the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.
In the year of his centennial, from his hometown, we evoke his legacy. Before 1959, healthcare in Cuba was a privilege for the few. Let’s revisit the republican era and the Revolution in power, and who better to do so than the first vice president of the Union of Historians in the province, Víctor Alejandro Aguilera Nonell. Also who has dedicated a large part of his life to researching the work of Fidel Castro Ruz.
This series has five parts: from the first steps in public health, visits to hospitals in the province. Exchanges with collaborators, doctors, and nursing staff, to the actions taken to improve infrastructure and technology.
Moreover the material explains how important this sector was to Fidel. Its analysis helps us better understand the actions of the man considered the greatest public health advocate.
