Holguin Delegation Attends 1st International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future”

With the added pride of representing the birthplace of the Commander-in-Chief. A delegation from the University of Holguin and the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in the province is participating in the 1st International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future.” Which opened this Monday at the Havana Convention Center.

The delegation from Holguin, comprised of Dr. Duanis Vázquez López and Master of Science graduates Iraida Nieves Portelles Rodríguez. Roberto Montero Aguilera, and Víctor Aguilera Nonell, is contributing an academic and historical perspective. From the province that gave birth to the leader of the Cuban Revolution. In the context of the centennial commemorations of his birth.

Furthermore the event brings together more than 1,500 delegates. Including over 900 foreign representatives from 63 countries, who are attending the meeting at the Havana fairgrounds until August 14th.

In the opening session, Dr. René González Barrios, director of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, delivered the welcoming remarks. He emphasized the importance of the meeting within the current complex international political and socioeconomic landscape.

González urged those present to continually draw upon the revolutionary thought and praxis of the Commander. To shape the struggles of the present and the future.

The Colloquium is consolidating itself as a space for scientific analysis, critical thinking, and a tribute to Fidel’s emancipatory work. Where the Holguin academic community reaffirms its commitment to keeping his legacy alive through teaching and historical research.
