Cuba Prepares Electrical Microsystem Schemes After New SEN Outage

The Cuban Electric Union (UNE) reported that the distributed generation systems are now operational in all provinces of the country. Guaranteeing power supply to vital centers following the latest outage of the National Electric System (SEN) that occurred yesterday at 11:05 a.m.

The unexpected shutdown of the Felton 1 unit caused a fluctuation in the parameters of the National Electric System (SEN). With a sudden change in frequency that led to the system outage.

Also the UNE reported this on its social media platform, while also announcing the immediate activation of recovery efforts. Aimed at restoring stability and ensuring the delivery of power to thermoelectric plants in western Cuba.

These SEN recovery efforts are progressing in stages, prioritizing essential health services and other strategic sectors. The latest power outage, the third in the last eight days. It comes amid growing economic pressure on Cuba from the United States.

The Washington government is blocking oil shipments to the island after President Donald Trump signed an executive order last January. Also threatening tariffs on countries that export or facilitate the supply of fuel.

Since late 2024, the Cuban National Electric System (SEN) has suffered several total blackouts. Amid the multi-billion dollar effects of the more than 60-year-old embargo that Washington has maintained against the Caribbean nation. Which prevents access to the resources necessary for the maintenance and development of the sector.
