The 11th edition of the Danzón for All Festival began this Thursday in the Holguin municipality of Frank País. Focused on safeguarding this dance as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Cuban nation.

The event, which will run until May 23rd. It is taking place simultaneously in the towns of Moa, Sagua de Tanamo, Urbano Noris, and the provincial capital. The event promotes national identity from the community level.
Idiana Ivet Parra, provincial coordinator of the project. She announced at a press conference that for the first time, the activities are being held in five municipalities. This year’s edition pays tribute to the centennial of historical leader Fidel Castro and to the danzón dancer Zoila Romero.
Moreover the scientific and cultural program includes the opening of the temporary exhibition “Danzón Memories,” dance workshops, and the theoretical event. According to the organizing committee, the project originated in 2008 in Cayo Mambí. As an outreach initiative of the Frank País Municipal University Center. It currently has the support of the University of Holguin (UHo) and the Provincial Center for Cultural Heritage (CPPC).
Parra highlighted that the dossier for proposing the cultural practice of danzón. As Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was recently completed.
