Holguin Will Hosts the 4th Meeting of Paper Artists

As part of the 32nd Ibero-American Culture Festival, the city of Holguin will host the 4th Meeting of Paper Artists from October 24th to 30th, 2026.

Under the theme “Ancestral Cultures, Contemporary Perspectives,” the event invites creators, teachers, students, and specialists to rediscover traditional papermaking techniques. And to explore their value as works of art in themselves.

The event is co-organized by the Provincial Center for Visual Arts, the Papiro Notebooks Publishing House (part of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets). The House of Ibero-America, and the Association of Paper Artists and Artisans of Florida.

Also the gathering, synonymous with tradition, sustainability, and a connection to education. It was born from the initiative of Fernando Bacallao, founder of the Papiro workshop. A promoter of this movement that responds to the need of artists and designers to access sustainable materials made from plant fibers and recycled materials.

It also seeks to directly involve creators in the papermaking process. Giving prominence to the material from obtaining the pulp to developing pieces and art book projects.

Throughout its editions, the event has maintained a strong educational and community focus. Highlighting the active participation of young students from the “El Alba” Regional School of Visual Arts. Also who are part of the academy, which hosts workshops and conferences.

In past editions, the event has paid tribute to the legacy of key figures in the visual arts in the region. Such as in 2025 when the work of Mexican muralist Electa Arenal and her connection to the Provincial Center for Visual Arts were highlighted.

For the 2026 edition, the event will maintain a comprehensive focus on environmental stewardship and contemporary creation. Through workshops, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and the exchange of knowledge and reflections on handmade paper in art education.

As a memento of this fourth edition, the resulting works will become part of the institutional collection of the Provincial Center for Visual Arts.

Applications will be accepted until September 30th, 2026, national and international artists can participate in person or virtually.
