Code Pink: Women for Peace Solidarity Group Welcomed in Holguin

The Holguin provincial delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). Welcomed a group of American activists from the organization Code Pink this Saturday. They are beginning a solidarity visit that will last until May 21st.

Code Pink: Women for Peace is a grassroots movement. Led by women and with a strong gender perspective, founded in 2002. Its trajectory is defined by active opposition to US-funded wars. And by an agenda advocating for peace and human rights globally.

The organization is characterized by its inclusive approach and the use of creative nonviolent protest tactics to challenge militarism.

During the reception, the visitors expressed their strong rejection of the Trump administration’s hostile policies toward Havana. Denouncing the economic sanctions and unilateral coercive measures. That constitute the economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade.

In line with Code Pink’s historical stance—which advocates redirecting war funds toward health and education. The activists expressed their concern about the direct impact of these sanctions on the Cuban people.

Moreover the delegation also warned of the threats that the current White House administration poses to the stability of Latin America and the Caribbean. Reaffirming the pacifist and anti-imperialist nature of their struggle.

The program designed for the visit of the group promoted by Code Pink. It includes intensive dialogue with the local population and representatives from various sectors of Holguin’s civil society.

Also the agenda includes visits to centers of socioeconomic interest, where activists will be able to witness firsthand the realities of the Caribbean nation. And strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two peoples, regardless of governmental political differences.
