Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic. He marched at the head of the rally taking place this Friday, May Day. At the Anti-Imperialist Tribune in Havana, the epicenter of the country’s celebrations in honor of International Workers’ Day.
The Cuban president traveled through the city alongside other top leadership representatives. With members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party, the State, the Government, the Young Communist League, mass, student, and social organizations. The Revolutionary Armed Forces, and the Ministry of the Interior, among other officials.
From various parts of the city, thousands of residents also traveled to the site to participate in the celebration. And thus demonstrate Cuba’s commitment to peace and its defense of sovereignty and independence. As was evident the previous week during the popular movement “My Signature for the Homeland.”
This initiative of Cuban civil society, convened by the Head of State during the ceremony commemorating the 65th anniversary of the proclamation of the socialist character of the Revolution on April 16th. It has become a national and international solidarity movement that carries the truth about Cuba to every corner of the planet.
Moreover this signature movement, which officially began on April 19th at Playa Girón with the signatures of Díaz-Canel himself and the leadership of the Revolution. It has spread to all workplaces, communities, and institutions throughout the country. And has also been supported by intellectuals, artists, journalists, and workers from various sectors. As well as by Cuban diplomatic missions abroad.
