From October 7th to 9th, the Havana Convention Center will host the IX Congress of the National Association of the Blind (ANCI in the Spanish acronym). A space dedicated to promoting the effective inclusion of these individuals in all spheres of social life.
The event will bring together 215 delegates, representatives from all over Cuba. To discuss important topics at a key moment for the association movement. Which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary—making it the first association of its kind in the country.
The event, held every four years, is the culmination of a process that began in 2023. Also with assemblies in grassroots groups, municipalities, and provinces.
On this occasion, Julia Elia Gastón Chacón, vice president of ANCI, stated during the press conference that this is the first time a congress will feature specialized panels. Focused on the inclusion of people with visual impairments, accessibility in digital environments, employment and hiring. And the use of artificial intelligence as a tool for autonomy.
She added that the congress will include several activities, including panels and working sessions in committees. The panels will feature guests such as Omara Durán, among other specialists linked to inclusion and accessibility. Four committees will also be held to address topics such as the functioning of management. Also international relations, education, culture, and sports.
According to the vice president, the objective is to gather input from members and move toward more effective inclusion in all areas of social life. The event will also facilitate the recognition of individuals and institutions with the highest distinction awarded by the organization for their extensive work.
