A modern station that allows for operational improvements to the condenser at the Lidio Ramón Pérez thermoelectric plant in Felton, Holguin, was recently installed. As part of Cuba’s investments to continue improving the stability of its thermal power generating units.
The plant, which cost €240,000, successfully completed the initial test and is in the effective testing phase since the restart of industrial operations. Explained engineer Rafael Acosta Liranza, senior specialist in the technical management supervision group at the Felton thermoelectric plant.
The chemical dosing and control system installed at the plant injects chemicals into the water circulating through the condenser to prevent scaling. Such as mineral deposits on the heat exchange surfaces, increasing efficiency and prolonging its useful life.
The innovative station dispenses corrosion inhibitors into the water to protect metal parts and pipes from deterioration. While adding biocides that control the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungi.
The system installed in Felton automates a process that keeps the cooling water clean and non-corrosive. Also ensuring the condenser operates at peak performance and extends maintenance or repair times.
The National Electric System is currently experiencing its most challenging times. Marked by the coincidence of unscheduled unit shutdowns and insufficient fuel. Causing high deficits and prolonged downtime.
