A photography exhibition dedicated to the native flora and fauna of eastern Cuba stands out among the environmental education initiatives in the province of Holguin focused on adolescents and young people.
The exhibition, titled Lente Verde (Green Lens) and created by the La Manigua Photo-Trekking Group, will be open until October at the El Pintorcillo gallery of the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library, located in the historic center of the city.
Wency Rosales, coordinator of the group of professionals, told CNA that among the fundamental objectives is to showcase the region’s environmental riches and raise awareness about its importance to natural balance.
He emphasized that through the lens, it is possible to document landscapes and convey emotions that cannot be described in words. That help us understand the need to preserve a vulnerable environment where we are intruders.
For his part, Geovanny Zaldívar Martínez, Deputy Delegate for the Environment, emphasized that the initiative contributes to preserving nature as a national heritage. Also contributes to eradicating human behavior against vulnerable species.
Moreover he also noted that the exhibition pays tribute to the Task for Life. The Cuban government’s plan to combat climate change, and to territorial projects for the conservation of endemic species.
Holguin is one of the provinces with the highest number of endemic species in Cuba. With more than a thousand native species of flora and fauna. Therefore, the Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment promotes activities for its conservation.
These include community actions in mountainous areas, educational talks, the creation of interest groups, children’s competitions, and strengthening ties with businesses and universities. Aimed at raising awareness about the importance of conserving these values.
