Actions are underway in Holguin to guarantee water supply

The Water Resources Delegation in Holguin is carrying out a series of actions aimed at ensuring the water supply to the main municipality. One of the most impacted by the intense drought in Cuba.

Juan Mario Echevarría Hernández, territorial delegate for the sector, told CNA that in this town, high water cycles exceed 100 days due to energy disruptions and low reservoir volumes.

He emphasized that in the case of hospitals, strategies are being designed focused on recovering their own sources to guarantee access to water in these facilities and reduce the burden on the service network.

The executive indicated that solutions are being sought to supply water to neighborhoods such as Ciudad Jardín and Santiesteban. Among those most affected by the weather conditions. Through energy backup with generators and the elimination of leaks.

Feasibility studies are also continuing with the goal of drilling wells in the areas of Calixto García, Rafael Freyre, Frank País. Also high-altitude areas of the capital city, historically affected by drought, indicated Echevarría Hernández.

The Cacoyugüin, Güirabo, and Gibara reservoirs, which supply the capital city, hold 2.4 million three thousand eight hundred ninety-nine and 12.8 million cubic meters of water, respectively.
