The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, toured three municipalities in the province of Holguin on Friday as part of his work agenda in eastern Cuba.

The visit included meetings with managers, workers and the local population to evaluate economic indicators, social projections and the implementation of the Food Sovereignty Law in Moa, Sagua de Tanamo and Frank Pais.

At the UEB Combinado Carnico Frank Pais, the President learned the details of the production that supplies the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tanamo and Frank Pais. Ángel Naranjo Aguilera, director of the facility, emphasized that “100% of our production is destined to social programs, with priority for health centers, schools and vulnerable groups”.

Díaz-Canel insisted on the need to optimize processes to increase productive efficiency.

The agenda continued in Moa with a visit to the Agricultural Unit of the ESUNI. A key entity in the food sustenance of the workers of the Cuba Nickel Business Group. Yaquelín González Céspedes, director of the unit, explained the advances in pig production.

The head of state acknowledged this model of self-sustainability, while calling to extend similar experiences in other productive poles of the province.

The highlight of the tour was the Ernesto Che Guevara Nickel and Cobalt Production Company, where Díaz-Canel held a pleasant dialogue with workers about working conditions and the stimulation system. While recognizing the contribution of that factory to the national economy.

At the end of the day, the President highlighted the strategic importance of eastern Cuba for the national development plans.
