Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today lamented the death of former Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong. Who highlighted his efforts to consolidate ties between the two countries.
“We are grief-stricken by the death of comrade Tran Duc Luong, former president of Vietnam. An outstanding promoter of the historic and close ties of brotherhood and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba,” he said in X.
“Heartfelt condolences to the Party, the Government and that brotherly people,” the head of state added.
On the platform itself, the island’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also expressed his sorrow over the death of the Vietnamese politician.
“It is with deep sorrow that we have learned of the death of comrade Tran Duc Luong. Former president of the sister Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” the foreign minister wrote.
“Our deepest condolences go to the leaders of Vietnam. Which we extend to the brotherly Vietnamese people, relatives and loved ones,” he said.
Tran Duc Luong died at the age of 88, according to the Specialized Council for the protection of the health of central-level officials.
The source said that this outcome occurred “despite the careful treatment provided by the Communist Party. A team of teachers and doctors and the devoted care of his family,” due to his advanced age and deteriorating health.
Details about the memorial ceremonies, funeral and burial of the also former member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCV will be announced soon.
