This Saturday in the municipality of Mayari, the Corúa 5 photovoltaic solar park was inaugurated. The first installation with a capacity of 21.8 megawatts (MW) in Holguin. That will contribute to the diversification of energy sources. In the country and the reduction of dependence on fossil fuels.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Revolution, Ramiro Valdés. As well as senior officials of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC by it is initials in Spanish). And the provincial government, including Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the PCC in Holguin. Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor in the province. Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines. And Alfredo López, general director of the Electrical Union.
For his part, Queipo Ruiz emphasized the symbolism of the park. Stating that “this park is more than clean energy: it is a monument to collective strength. A reminder that when we work together, with faith in the Revolution and in Fidel, there is no impossible goal.”
The province of Holguin has a leading role in the national energy strategy. With 12 solar parks under development. Of these, five will have a capacity of 21.8 MW, one of 10 MW and six of 5 MW.
Currently, four of these projects are under execution. Including the Potrerillo (in the municipality of Rafael Freyre) and El Cocal (in Mayari) Parks. Which are expected to come into operation between June and August 2025.

The synchronization of all these projects will allow the province to contribute 149 MW to the SEN before the end of this year. Consolidating its role in reducing emissions and moving towards a more sustainable energy matrix.
