The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, with an enrollment of more than three thousand students, is promoting training seminars as part of the comprehensive training programs in the regular daytime course.
Yanexi Pérez Rodríguez, a specialist in the area of Science and Innovation at that university, told ACN that this initiative is of great importance because it allows expanding the preparation of doctors to be and identifying students with potential to join master’s and doctorate programs.
She pointed out that the projects include lectures and exchange of experiences between students and professors, based on topics such as the collection of information on health sciences and introductory talks on this field.
The directive emphasized that the students are also involved in research on cancer and chronic non-communicable diseases, among the main causes of death in the territory.
She also pointed out that this initiative includes insertion in vertical internships and other options for professional improvement, taking into account the aptitudes and interests of the students.
Likewise, the educational institution fosters links with the community included in the processes of accreditation of specialties that take place during the school year in Cuba’s higher education institutions.
The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, with one of the largest enrollment universities on the island, has graduated more than 45,000 students from some 20 nations since its foundation and has achieved several accredited specialties of excellence, the stability of its faculty and a large number of masters, doctors and qualified professionals teaching.
