The 18th Gibara International Film Festival, being held in this eastern Cuban city from Holguin province, closed on Saturday with the granting ceremony of the 2024 Lucia de Honor Award in several categories.
The closing ceremony took place at Jiba movie-theater, when the best of all 83 selected films, including 11 fiction films, 24 short-length films, 11 documentaries, 22 short-length documentaries, and 15 animated films, were honored.
At the local Culture House a talk was held renown actors and atresses Jorge Martinez, Lola Amores, Alberto Corona, Liliana Lam, and Rene de la Cruz, event thta was followed by the International Social Film Festival Showcase of Castilla-La Mancha (FECISO) at this city’s Municipal Museum.
Under the theme “Filma el Oriente!” (Film Eastern Cuba), this year’s event retook Cinema in Construction and invited to the Factory of Low-Budget Film project, which focus on supporting audiovisual production in the country’s eastern region and Camagüey.
For their outstanding contribution to Cuban cinema, three personalities receive the 2024 Lucia de Honor Award: filmmakers Manuel Herrera, “Zafiros, Locura Azul” (Zafiros, Blue Madness, 1997) and Manuel Perez, “El Hombre de Maisinicu” (The Man from Maisinicu, 1973), and cinematographer Livio Delgado “Un Hombre de Exito” (A Successful Man, 1986).
Film, music, literature, visual and performing arts come together to celebrate a festival that each year holds the idea of its founder, outstanding filmmaker Humberto Solas (1941-2008). / With information by Prensa Latina.
