Childcare week closes in Holguin

Given the importance of childcare in the attention of children from birth to adolescence and the role played in the promotion of health and wellbeing, the Health sector in Holguin dedicated the first week of April to provide guidance to parents on feeding, hygiene, vaccination, physical and emotional development, and other important aspects of the growth and development of this population group.

In this regard, Elizabeth Chacón Hernández, a graduate in Nursing and provincial head of the Nursing Section of the General Directorate of Health, said that “under the slogan Promoting Health and Universal, Affective and Equitable Well-being for Children and Adolescents in their Families, Schools and Communities throughout the course of their lives, the Week of Childcare was held”.

She added that it was a way of recognizing at the country level the work of the puericulture nurse, who is in charge, together with the multidisciplinary team, of accompanying the mother and the pregnant woman, from the conception of the fetus during birth and throughout the child’s life, promoting, supporting and protecting breastfeeding, the growth and development of infants.

“This role is related to strengthening actions that contribute to the development of the health of our young people, allowing them to reach an adult life with more skills to be able to serve the communities,” he said.

He reported that the central slogans that Holguín welcomed were: For a happy home, a healthy and safe childhood, A healthy and happy childhood for the future and Childcare, a nurturing journey through life.

Chacón Hernández pointed out that the province developed multiple activities in the 14 municipalities, in primary care institutions, especially through educational talks and discussions promoting universal health and welfare.

Childcare is also responsible for detecting and treating possible health problems in children, as well as preventing diseases and disabilities, it is essential to ensure healthy growth and optimal development in childhood and adolescence.
