As part of the celebrations for Cuban Press Day, the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) in Holguín began a program of activities scheduled until March 14, a date that commemorates the release of the first issue of the newspaper Patria founded by José Martí, in 1892.

On this occasion, the day pays tribute to Fidel and Martí, permanent guides in journalistic work, and will also be dedicated to the workers of the station Radio Holguín La Nueva on its 27th anniversary and to the members of the provincial correspondent of the Cuban Agency of News (ACN) on its 50th anniversary.
Germán Veloz, president of the UPEC in the territory, highlighted some of the recreation and fraternization activities that will be taking place during these days, such as a meeting to honor women journalists, as well as a discussion on the history of the Radio Holguín La Nueva and its social impact on the population.

At the opening of the day, the winner of the Lifetime Work Award was announced, a recognition that UPEC grants to its members for their extensive professional performance in Cuban press media with great social significance, which on this occasion went to journalist Ricardo Gual Hernández with outstanding journalistic practice on the local television channel Tele Cristal.

The closing of the Conference is scheduled for the next 14th with the presentation of this Award and the Félix Elmuza Distinction to professionals with a long career in the press media.
