City Awards given in Holguin’s Culture Week

The City Awards in its 37 edition of the Holguin Culture Week were given this Saturday night, at Eddy Suñol Theater, in a gala directed by Maestro Orestes Saavedra.

In architecture, the Cemi Baibrama went for architect Ivet Plana for the monumental restoration of the Saratoga Hotel.

In the radio category it was awarded to journalist Roxana Rivero Ricardo for the Postcast series dedicated to Holguin’s cultural figures.

In fine arts was awarded Cristian Escalona for the work that was in competition at the City Hall.

In music was awarded singer Nadiel Mejías and Arnaldo Pérez Ruiz.

In television was awarded the documentary dedicated to the 80 years of life of Lauro Hechavarría, with the production company Desde Cero.

In promotional communication, five awards were given: Mario Rodríguez in multimedia, Roxana Rivero in radio, Raúl Barea in design and in television to director Eylin Abreu and her team for the campaign for the 20th anniversary of the program “A buen tiempo”.

In History for a work that deals with the economic research of the territory, from colonial times, by Alexander Abreu Pipo and Carlos A. Cardona.

In Literature for Children, the Cemi Baibrama went for David Martinez for a book of stories for young people, which deals with social problems of the family, told by an adolescent.

In the video section, Melissa Sanchez, a student of the Higher Institute of the Arts (ISA) of Holguin, was awarded the prize for her production entitled Arte Ancestros (Ancestral Art).

In printed press, the City Award was granted to journalist Calixto González Betancourt, for his article on El Yayal.

In literature, the winner was poet from the municipality of Mayarí, Osmary Reyes García.

Poet and writer Gilberto González Seik, president of the jury of the City Award, in dialogue with the press said: I have a very good opinion of the work done, I have been close to and I have been able to listen to the jurors and they have been very rigorous with the scale that goes up each time. I am pleased that the quality has been superior to the previous year. These works leave their sediment and will be part of the Holguin cultural fund”, said Seik.

The awards gala was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba PCC in Holguín, Governor Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, Rachel García Heredia, provincial director of Culture, and Ricardo Suárez Martínez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.

In this edition were delivered 17 Cemi Baibramas, the God of Labor in the aboriginal culture of the Cuban archipelago.
