Holguin marks 272 years with the City Title

With a concert representative of the idiosyncrasy of the territory, the people of Holguin celebrated the 272nd anniversary of the foundation of the city as part of the activities carried out during the 41st edition of the Culture Week.

Accompanied by the interpretations of the Provincial Concert Band, under the baton of Maestro Daniel Sosa, the evening recalled, through music, passages of the history of that January 18, 1752, when the city was granted the title of City and Government Tenure.

The meeting that took place in front of the Cathedral of San Isidoro in the Parque Mayor General Julio Grave de Peralta, witnessed the confluence of projects and distinguished cultural institutions of this eastern town.

Among the representatives of the artistic talent were members of the Teatro Lírico Rodrigo Prats, the oral narration company Palabras al viento and soloists such as Nadiel Mejías, who delighted the audience attending the show in the well-known Cuban City of the Parks.

The Bayado winemakers club made the usual toast at midnight, with cashew wine, after the chimes of the Cathedral, to celebrate one more birthday of tradition, history and identity.

The city of Holguin was founded when the marshal Don Alonso de Arcos y Moreno stated that, obeying the orders of King Ferdinand VI, and after several attempts of the settlers requesting that right to the Spanish Crown, San Isidoro de Holguin was no longer a village but a city.
