The Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant in Felton has resynchronized with the National Electric System (SEN). After repairing a leak in pipe five of the dome’s rear wall. This crack had forced the shutdown of unit one since last Tuesday.
Víctor Hugo González Quiala, the plant’s technical director, told journalist Emilio Rodríguez Pupo of Radio Mayari. That the work on the dome was the most complex part of the critical path. Also after the hydraulic test scheduled for Sunday, they had to repair another leak in the turbine-generator boiler.
Rodríguez Pupo reported on his social media that the synchronization occurred at 8:04 pm this Monday. At that time, the unit was contributing 140 megawatts (MW) and continuing to absorb load, with shift D leading the operations.
González Quiala explained that the staff focused their efforts on resolving more than one hundred anomalies detected in the turbine generator. With actions that included repairing the high-pressure heaters to increase the machine’s efficiency. As well as slag removal from the boiler and cleaning of superheater number one.
He emphasized that all the actions were carried out by plant workers, employees of the Power Plant Maintenance Company, and ECI-3. With the utmost care, to guarantee the unit’s availability and reliability upon its return to power generation.
The Felton thermoelectric plant continues to operate out of service, specifically in unit two. Which was damaged by a fire during the startup process. This follows maintenance work that was intended to add approximately 220 megawatts to the National Electric System (SEN) in the summer of 2022.
