Crimes Against the Electrical System on Rise in Holguin

Holguin has seen an increase in crimes against the electrical system so far this year. With more than 42 incidents reported in the last days of July. The majority of these involved the theft of dielectric oil from transformers.

According to a publication by Trabajadores (Workers: a newspaper). More than half of the reported crimes are directly related to the theft of this essential fluid used for cooling and insulating transformers.

On July 1st, 29 crimes against the electrical system were reported in the province. However, by July 28th, the number had risen to 42. Representing an increase of 13 incidents in less than a month. A trend that is raising alarms among specialists in the sector.

The report adds that the municipalities of Baguanos, Moa, Gibara, and Cueto have seen the highest number of recent thefts of dielectric oil. A situation that warrants increased surveillance and prevention efforts in these areas.

Furthermore the publication emphasizes that dielectric oil is an essential component for cooling and insulating electrical transformers. Its theft causes overheating, short circuits, and irreparable damage to high-value equipment. Directly impacting the electricity supply to communities, health centers, schools, and productive sectors.

The Holguin Electric Company called on the public to be aware of the serious consequences of these criminal acts. As electricity is a common good, and protecting it and reporting these crimes is the responsibility of every citizen.
