The National Electric Union (UNE) reported today via its social media channels that the National Power System (SEN) was restored at midday, following its total outage last Sunday.
The UNE statement specified that at 10:55 a.m., the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Plant unit was synchronized and began to gradually increase its load. While the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant in Felton, Holguin, began the startup process to contribute to the maintenance of the SEN.
According to the update, at 11:35 a.m., the province of Santiago de Cuba was fully reconnected to the system. Thus achieving stability of the SEN throughout the country.
Moreover the National Electric Union (UNE) emphasized that the restoration efforts were carried out in stages. Ensuring the return online of the main generating units.
All provinces are implementing their protocols for restoring and strengthening the National Electric System (SEN). With actions aimed at guaranteeing service stability and the safety of operations in each territory.
So far in 2026, the SEN has registered six nationwide blackouts. According to reports from the National Electric Union. Each lasting between five and eight hours to achieve the progressive reconnection of the provinces.
These outages negatively impact not only families, but also businesses and all sectors of the Cuban economy.
Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, recently stated that the SEN outages are not due to operational failures. But rather to the conditions currently facing the electrical power system, a result of the tightening of the US embargo.
