The second group of Cuban rescue and health experts arrived in Venezuela this Monday. To join the rescue and recovery efforts for victims of the earthquakes that struck seven states of the country.
The delegation arrived at the Valencia International Airport in Carabobo state. Due to the extensive damage to the Maiquetía Airport in La Guaira state. Where they were received by the Cuban ambassador in Caracas, Jorge Mayo. Among other officials from the State and Medical Mission.
The team included surgeons and forensic doctors belonging to the Henry Reeve Contingent. Who will immediately join the medical care efforts. This new group of Cubans will join the 13 who arrived the previous day. They immediately set up their tents in the disaster zone.
With this specialized personnel, Cuba reinforced its aid to the Venezuelan people. Who immediately received support and assistance from the Medical Mission working in all 24 states of the country.
Also the Cuban ambassador reported a meeting with Nellys Molina, president of the Barrio Adentro Mission Foundation, and members of her team. To clarify the support missions and coordinate the participation of the doctors in caring for those affected in La Guaira.
This Monday, the island’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, stated that the arrival in Venezuela of a group of rescuers. To assist in the search for trapped people and to support our medical brigade “constitutes a further demonstration of #Cuba’s unwavering solidarity with the brotherly Venezuelan people.”
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez announced on the Telegram social network that another brigade arrived today from Vietnam. As well as “rescue workers from our sister nation of Cuba.”
For his part, the president of the National Assembly (parliament), Jorge Rodríguez, said that 45 delegations are participating in the search and rescue efforts. Totaling 3,319 men and women from Latin American, Asian, and European nations.
He stated that, along with this personnel, they have 707,063 tons of humanitarian aid, 49 vehicles, and 140 dogs to reinforce the work in the emergency areas. Which are concentrated primarily in some areas of Caracas, Miranda, and La Guaira. The latter of which has been declared a Natural Disaster Zone.
More than 120 hours after what is considered the worst natural disaster in Venezuela’s history. Also the death toll has risen to 1,719, the number of injured to 5,034. And the number of people displaced has reached 15,866. For a total of 22,619 people currently receiving care in hospitals and emergency centers.
