In a moving ceremony held at the La Periquera Provincial Museum in Holguin. Four distinguished members of the José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM) received the organization’s 30th anniversary commemorative seal. In recognition of their invaluable work in disseminating the legacy of Cuba’s National Hero.
The recipients of this distinction—Xiomara Garzón Montes de Oca, María Julia Guerra Ávila, Eliel Gómez Martínez, and Carolina Gutiérrez Marroquín. Exemplify the constant and quiet work that, from communities, classrooms, and cultural institutions, keeps Martí’s work alive.
On behalf of the honorees, Xiomara Garzón Montes de Oca stated that receiving this seal is not an end point. Rather an incentive to redouble their efforts in teaching Martí’s thought. Especially among the younger generations.
Moreover the José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM) was founded on October 20th, 1995, by a group of prestigious Cuban intellectuals. Conceived as a non-governmental, non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote the study and dissemination of the Apostle’s thought and work both within and outside the country.
This founding mission remains intact in the province. Also where the branch, with 62 clubs and more than 600 members. It showcases the network of collective efforts that, from Holguin. It continues to weave together the enduring legacy of José Martí as an ethical and political guiding light for the Cuban nation.
