Holguin Workers to Gather in Squares on May Day

From the municipal capitals and communities, Holguin workers will celebrate May Day with parades and rallies. Commemorating the centennial of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Cuban Workers’ Federation. She told CNA that Calixto García Revolution Square will be the epicenter of the provincial event. Also where representatives from 15 labor unions will gather to commemorate their day.

Amid the complex energy situation facing the country. Rallies have been called in 13 municipalities and 52 localities. To facilitate access and encourage attendance, she noted.

Furthermore the occasion will be used to recognize veterans from Holguin who participated in the Playa Giron invasion. On the 65th anniversary of that event, and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers.

Faced with the intensification of interventionist measures by the United States government against Cuba. This movement provides solutions that reduce the economic impact. Keeping essential equipment operational, increasing energy efficiency, and optimizing processes.

Serrano commented that on this day they will once again demand an end to the hostile policies of the United States against the archipelago. For which an international campaign will be launched with friendly labor organizations.

The leader added that activities are taking place on the eve of the event. Such as recognizing outstanding groups for their socioeconomic contributions to the nation. As well as providing support to institutions and communities, including food production and sanitation efforts.

May Day in Cuba, since 1959, has been a moment of celebration for the Labor Movement. An occasion to remember the legacy and honor the achievements of those who fought for workers’ rights.
