Childcare Boosted in “An April for Pediatrics” Campaign

April is a special month for pediatrics. Dedicated to highlighting the fundamental work done to promote the health of children. In this context, the “An April for Pediatrics” campaign takes place. A series of activities that bring together healthcare professionals, students, and the community. In a joint effort to promote child well-being and education. About the main health conditions affecting children and adolescents in this northeastern region.

Héctor Pupo Rodríguez, head of the provincial pediatrics group and director of the Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital. He shares his perspective on this significant month. For him, pediatrics is more than a profession. It is a vocation that has guided his life for almost four decades. “Children are the hope of the world,” he affirms.

Throughout this month, pediatric specialists are organizing various activities. Ranging from visits to daycare centers to talks in high schools. Addressing relevant topics such as teenage pregnancy, drug use, and accident prevention. These initiatives not only aim to educate but also to connect with young people and foster an environment of open dialogue.

This period will culminate in a particularly moving event: a Pediatric Oncology Day. Dedicated to children facing the challenge of cancer, scheduled for the 30th. This event also serves to highlight the social impact of those dedicated to the care of cancer patients at this stage of life. “We are not alone. We are a multidisciplinary team working with dedication for the well-being of our children,” concluded the pediatric intensivist.

For her part, Melvis Calderón Hermida, a nurse specializing in maternal and child health. Also emphasizes the importance of this event from a nursing perspective: “We are involved in numerous activities where nurses play a crucial role in pediatric care. During April, joint visits and training sessions were held on essential topics such as palliative care for pediatric patients. It is fundamental to address not only palliative care but also ongoing care. Which is much more comprehensive,” she explains.

The nursing team’s commitment extends beyond the scheduled activities. They seek to improve the quality of care provided to pediatric patients. “We plan to repeat the training sessions on other important topics,” adds Calderón Hermida. So she is also a quality specialist at the pediatric institution. With the desire to continue educating and training future nursing professionals.

The “April for Pediatrics” campaign reinforces the principle that childcare is a collective effort. Also where each professional contributes their part to ensure that children leave our institutions with their health restored.

Moreover this month celebrates not only Pediatrics as a medical specialty. Also the love and dedication of those involved in the care and management of young children.
