Dengue prevention actions are carried out in Holguín

The General Directorate of Public Health in the Cuban province of Holguín is implementing control and prevention measures on dengue fever, a disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Gianela Cruz, a second-degree specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology and director of the provincial center of the branch, emphasized to the ACN that a strategy is being applied in the territory to reduce infestation rates by eliminating the vector’s foci detected in the community, and to protect the population.

In each municipality and neighborhoods, there are temporary groups in charge of the evaluation and timely diagnosis of non-specific febrile syndromes through the active screening, mainly in the municipalities of Cacocum, Calixto García, Sagua de Tánamo, Moa and the city of Holguin, where there is spread at the moment, she said.

She referred that together with organizations such as Comunales and Recursos and Hydraulic Resources, as well as the mass organizations, are working to eliminate the environmental threats that exist in the neighborhoods, among them the micro dumps, drains and stagnant waters.

Also, as part of the dengue prevention activities, the autofocal in homes and companies is being done,  together with talks and exchanges with population, where the family doctors focused on increasing risk perception and emphasizing on the importance of visiting health care institutions in case of any dengue fever.
