
The freedom of Julian Assange will make us all freer, declared today in Havana the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, on the social network X.
The Cuban Foreign Minister declared that it will be a victory for the truth against the injustice of those who harassed, locked up and isolated him in a narrow cell for daring to “put the empire in the dock”, as the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro stated.
Cuba praises freedom of Julian Assange
In the Cuban minister’s message, Assange was released this Monday and traveled to his native country, Australia, following an agreement with the United States government to plead guilty to a felony under the Espionage Act, after spending the last five years of his life in a British prison.
The journalist would thus put an end to a long legal process that began when he was held responsible for the largest leak in the history of the United States of secret documents in 2010-2011, on the Pentagon’s military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
According to WikiLeaks, the departure of its creator is the result of a global campaign that involved grassroots organizers, press freedom advocates, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations.
