Abdala decoration given to elementary school in Holguín

The Abdala decoration, the highest award granted by Movimiento Juvenil Martiano in the country, was given in Holguin to Gerardo Perez Rodriguez elementary school for its outstanding work in the dissemination and study of the life and work of José Marti, Cuba’s National Hero.

Reynaldo Zaldívar, president of the organization in the territory, recognized this Friday the institution, located in the municipality of Cacocum, for the years dedicated to promote Martí’s work as a fundamental part of the education of children at very early ages.

Protecting José Martí’s thought through constant work and the analysis of History is our priority and we also embrace the community through parades, in every morning meetings, exchanges with the youth nad children and the attention to the busts of the most universal of Cubans, Roberto Portelles, director of the center, stressed to ACN.

He referred to the importance of creating a commitment in the new generations with the permanent homage to the heroes of the Homeland, since they are the legacy of a country that needs the youth as the main pillar in the construction of society.

The Abdala award is granted to individuals and institutions to encourage research in the social sciences, mainly in the life and work of Martí, as well as its dissemination and implementation.

Founded in 1989, the Movimiento Juvenil Martiano brings together children, adolescents and young Cubans under 35 years of age to promote the study and legacy of the Apostle.
