The Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC) in Holguín province called on its members to participate in the transformation of prioritized neighborhoods, as part of the activities as part of the activities in salute to May Day, International Workers’ Day.
Idalmis Serrano Gómez, secretary general of the organization’s provincial committee, told ACN that the unions will collaborate in the communities included in the the comprehensive program for the revival of neighborhoods, which aims at improving urban planning and boosting the economy, based on the possibilities of each settlement.
The duty of the different groups is to get involved in the social life of the localities and contribute to their welfare through sanitation days, repair of vital centers, collection of raw materials and contributions to their self-sufficiency, said the union leader.
On the occasion of the day, she commented, they have also planned several meetings to promote unity and empowerment of the union, among which are volunteer work on weekends in support of the sugarcane harvest and food production in vegetable gardens and large farms like as Beola and La Yuraguana.
In addition, in each municipality of the northeastern territory, events will be held to present awards, including the Honorary Title of Hero of Labor, the status of National Vanguard to 26 groups that stood out during the year, the Order Lázaro Peña, the Jesús Menéndez decoration to union leaders with a long career, announced the Secretary General.
Other activities programmed to commemorate this important date are the ExpoAnir Soluciones Cuba event, which will allow for the socialization of innovation and experiences among workers, as well as blood donation days, sports events festivals and contests that encourage the participation of children and young people.
The slogan “For Cuba, together we create” presides this year’s May Day celebration, which coincides with the organic process of the 22nd Congress of the CTC and with the 85th anniversary of the creation of the organization, for such a reason the country is calling for a massive concentration of its workers’ movement on a day that commemorates the struggles for the rights that it now struggles for the rights it now enjoys.
