The province of Holguin will be represented by 11 participants, including nine students and two professors, at the VIII National Meeting of Students of Medical Sciences, to be held next April 12 to 14 at the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey.

Delegates from all Cuban medical universities will participate in the meeting and it will be an opportunity to exchange experiences and evaluate the fulfillment of the agreements reached at the 10th Congress of the Federation of University Students (FEU).

José Ángel Campos Arca, president of the FEU at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMHo) and one of the delegates from the territory, informed that the meeting will be attended by students from all over the province representing the more than five thousand members of the medical sciences at present.”Our objective will be to be able to contribute, to be useful, to offer our point of view and also to share with our colleagues from other provinces, to bring them our feelings and to enjoy the event that will surely be profitable for everyone,” he added.

Prior to this activity, there were extensive days of debate, guided by student leaders, and led by the membership to learn their views and suggestions on how to improve the work of the vanguard youth organization, the FEU.

“With regard to the representativeness of student leaders, there has been an in-depth discussion on the characteristics they should have, how to develop our event and how to make university life more attractive, not only for students, but also for society.”

“The latter,” he emphasized, “is the main beneficiary of the product that we university students of medical sciences represent at the different levels of action, whether in hospitals, polyclinics, clinics or in the communities. The fifth year medical student also expressed that they seek to serve society through university extension, sports, culture and also with research projects aimed more and more at solving the problems that affect the health of the people.

Meetings of this nature contribute to the purpose of training integral professionals with high human value in the Cuban Public Health System, a space where the timely debate will be promoted to strengthen the organic work of the FEU, on the way to its 101st Anniversary.
