With the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ricardo Gual Hernández, journalists from Holguin province remembered Cuban Press Day, after long celebrations there, which were dedicated to the municipal Radio Holguín station and the 50th anniversary of the Cuban News Agency (CNA).
At Jose Marti Park, in Holguín city, were recognized on Thursday CNA members with the Felix Elmusa distinction, granted by the Union of Cuban Journalists (Upec), together with local media members Nelson Rodríguez Roque, Celia Arévalo Peña, Luca Arévalo Peña, Lucía Bárbara Caraballo Pérez and Yolaine Álvarez González.
Other media workers were also awarded with Raúl Gómez García medal, the highest award conferred by the National Union of Culture, to those who Have devote part of their life working to the sector for more than 25 years, which included reporters Osvaldo Pérez Díaz and Germán Veloz Placencia.
Perez Díaz, on behalf of all the award winners, expressed the commitment to exercise a journalism close to the people, which achieves to be a way to be a solution to the needs and concerns of the people.
Maintaining that trust is our responsibility and despite not being an easy task, we will do our job better and better, he stressed.
The Ministry of the Interior and the Government of the province also recognized Upec for its outstanding work for so many years in bringing together years grouping press professionals.
The meeting was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and first secretary of the PCC in the province; Manuel Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín, among other local authorities.
Cuban Press Day is commemorated every March 14, inspired on the date on which the first copy of the newspaper Patria, founded by José Martí in New York in 1892, was published.
