Health Organization and Administration specialty begins in Holguin

With the recent start of the first edition of the Health Organization and Administration specialty at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCMHo), there are now 66 medical, stomatological and nursing specialties trained in this house of higher studies.

According to Rosell Dorrego Ansardo, Doctor of Science, director of postgraduate studies at the Higher Education institution, “of the 69 programs approved in the country for the training of professionals, today we have 66 programs at our university, including 53 medical specialties, five stomatological and six nursing specialties. Precisely, the specialty that most recently began its formation was that of Health Organization and Administration”.

“It has an enrollment of nine residents and an average age of 32.3 years, the same was conceived for leaders and officials of the sector, as a way to make the path viable and give the necessary tools for the conduction of processes in the health system.”

Of the nine medical professionals enrolled in this specialty, five come from the provincial capital city, two from the municipality of Báguanos, one from Mayarí and one from “Calixto García”, while seven have a previous specialty in General Comprehensive Medicine (MGI), one in Pediatrics and one in Hematology.

This specialty, to last for two years, is made up of residents who hold different positions in the health field of the territory, such as municipal directors, directors and deputy directors of health areas and two deputy directors of secondary care at the pediatric hospital Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja and the Lucia Íñiguez Landín surgical clinic. The presentiality is developed one week each month and the rest of the time is from their workplace, as the main form of organization of this process.

Thus, integrated by a staff of 20 professors, among the main purposes of this training is to solve the problems of health organization and administration, with a methodological and scientific approach aimed at increasing the efficiency of management processes.

At present, work is being done with the program and the academic institution’s faculty to ensure that the Medical Psychology specialty will also start its formation soon in the province of Holguin.
