Triumphant return of Wichy Nogueras at Havana Book Fair

Almost 40 years after his death due to a fulminating illness -on July 6, 1985 in Havana, his hometown-, which cut short one of the most brilliant works of Cuban literature in the second half of the 20th century, Luis Rogelio (Wichy) Nogueras, Cabeza de zanahoria (Carrot Head or El Rojo (The Red One) -because of the color of his hair-, has made a triumphant comeback at Havana International Book Fair, in what is one of his main events.

Encicloferia (Las manos vacías), a novel unpublished until today and almost finished by Wichy on his deathbed, has seen the light with editing work by Reinaldo Acosta, and with the help of his widow, Neyda Izquierdo, in a 442-page volume with elegant design, on whose cover stands out a photo of the author around 1982.

Presented by writers Francisco López Sacha and Emmanuel Tornés, and by the writer’s widow, the novel, although unfinished and very close to completion, is a risky and exuberant bet of very high verbal construction.

On one hand, an adventure novel, and on the other one, an intellectual display of high carats, with incessant and luminous play of words, as well as ways of different legendary styles in the art of storytelling, starting with the Irish James Joyce, whose imprint gravitates powerfully in this Encyclopaedia as delicious as unforgettable that now reaches Cuban readers.

The 32nd edition of Havana International Book Fair has Brazil as country guest of honor, several sub-sites exhibiting the best of the art of literature, and an offer of three million physical books and two thousand digital books.
