With the aim of linking the heritage with the life of our National Hero, the III Edition of the annual event “Martí among us” was held in Holguin, in the framework of the activities for the 171st anniversary of his birth.
Young students from the territory, members of the Movimiento Juvenil Martiano and the José Martí Association, gathered at Plaza de la Revolución Calixto García Íñiguez Monumental Complex to evoke the famous Cuban patriot and writer.
In this space, which invites children, teenagers and young people to study Martí’s work and get to know the most human side of the Apostle, the winners of the contest “José Martí: my friend, the man of the Golden Age” were awarded.

At the event, students from different educational institutions presented papers on his legacy and the relevance of his thoughts in our society.
Víctor Aguilera Nonell, first vice-president of the Union of Historians of Cuba, highlighted the diversity of the topics presented in relation to Latin Americanist and abolitionist thought and its impact on Fidel Castro’s life.
He urged to continue studying the work of the most universal of all Cubans, who was able to reach with his prose the purest and noblest people in the world.
During the event, the book Martí y los holguineros by authors María Julia Guerra and Edith Santos Montero, who describe in the book Marti’s trajectory through our land in Holguin, was also presented.
