Parapan American gold medal for javelinist from Banes, Holguin

With a shot of 61 meters and 11 centimeters, personal best and for the event, javelinist Ulises Aguilera won the gold medal of the specialty in the VII Parapan American Games of Santiago de Chile 2023.

In this way, the athlete from the municipality of Banes, Holguin province, erased the previous Parapan American record of 59.62 meters, which also belonged to him since Lima-2019.

Meanwhile, the silver medal went to Natanael Sánchez, from the Dominican Republic, with a record of 43.47 meters, while the bronze medal went to Markeith Price, from the United States, with a throw of 29.56 meters.

Aguilera participated in the javelin throw category F13, assigned to those with visual impairment, with a maximum radius of 20 degrees, or able to recognize an object the size of a tennis ball at five meters.

On the previous day, Sheila Hernandez, a parajudoka from Holguin, won the title in the over 70 kilograms division.

The Cuban delegation to the Parapan American Games, from the 15th to the 27th of this month, is made up of 53 athletes in 10 sports, a figure that represents 10 more athletes than in the previous edition of Lima-2019.

Likewise, some 2,000 athletes from 31 countries are participating in the multisport event in 17 sports.

Cuba aspires to surpass the 13 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals won in the previous edition held in the Peruvian capital.
