Genara Barcelay Sayú: Seeing Stories through Sound

The jury that participates in the listening of the works in competition of the National Festival of Cuban Radio is integrated by valuable and experienced professionals of the medium, on of them Genara Barcelay Sayú, who is a program director of CMKS, Radio Tribuna Antiimeperialista in the province of Guantánamo, is one of the radio broadcasters chosen for this contest.

The experienced director told Radio Angulo that she is very proud to have been invited to this competition, the first appointment after 13 years of absence of this type of events.

Barcelay Sayú, from Guantanamo, continued her dialogue expressing that the rescue of the festivals is a joy for everyone, it is the purest gauge of artists and radio broadcasters.

Her performance for 38 years in the radio environment has allowed her to be worthy of several national awards in the categories of Propaganda, Dramatized Programs and Peasants.

The latter is a reference in Guantánamo due to its millionaire audience, since it has been on the air for 50 years, in 30 of them the outstanding radio broadcaster has worked as scriptwriter, producer and director of the program.

“It is the award to the best -underlined the director-, it is to visualize through sound those real and daily stories, it is to be able to value how far we can go as radio producers among so many valuable people who attend, such as the National Cuban Radio Awards”.

The jury, which includes Barcelay Sayú, will evaluate the special theme programs, which include the José Martí Centennial, the 70th anniversary of the Moncada Barracks Assault, spaces that reflect the before, during and after Covid-19 and the events of the Saratoga Hotel, among others.
