Rainstorm causes heavy rains over Holguín
With accumulated rainfall exceeding 100 and 200 millimeters, registered by several stations and rain gauges, the province of Holguin reports locally heavy rains concentrated in the capital city.
Yanier Rodriguez Perez, a specialist from the Meteorological Center’s forecasting department, told the Cuban News Agency (CNA) that some stations like the one at José de la Luz y Caballero University headquarters has recorded heavy rainfall, 146 millimeters in the last few hours.
Also, at the stations of Guaro (219), La Jíquima (146) and Velasco (114) millimeters, respectively, according to information from the Institute of Meteorology.

He stressed that among the atmospheric conditions that made possible the occurrence of these rains, stand out a huge mass of clouds located over the territory, which causes the increase of rainfall in several of the 14 municipalities, with greater incidence in the head town of the province.
At the same time, the rain gauge of the Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources, located in the Industrial Zone, registered 82 millimeters, while at the closing of this information, rainfall continues in the territory.
Lieutenant Colonel Yulieski Suárez Franco, head of the Provincial Civil Defense Agency, reported that so far floods have been reported in the towns of Velasco and Guaro, in the municipalities of Gibara and Mayarí, respectively.
He emphasized that according to preliminary information, these areas have the most complex situation, for which several families have been evacuated to safe places and the damages are still being quantified.
From the social network Facebook, several users reported slight flooding in the streets of Vista Alegre and Lenin neighborhoods, although no material damages have been quantified.
