Valdés Mesa urged to sustainable production in Holguín

Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the Republic of Cuba, urged this Friday to a sustainable production from the localities and the agreement of fair prices in an exchange with members of the Municipal Administration Council of Calixto García, in Holguín.

During the meeting, held at the Agricultural premise of the Delegation of that territory, the state of implementation of the Food Sovereignty Law was examined with respect to previous months and the absence of national productions in the regulated family basket, the inflation in the prices of agricultural products and the confrontation of illegalities were addressed.

Valdés Mesa affirmed that all the food of the basic family food basket is purchased outside the country, when there is already a regulation that includes the autonomy of the municipalities for food sustainability, which shows the need to advance in production, the decentralization of resources and thus lower the level of imports.

The also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) pointed out the contribution of the territory, expected in 2024, mainly with cassava, malanga and rice, and urged the increase in the production of large and small livestock, as well as various crops to generate economic development, vital in times of global crisis and tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

He also checked the existing Base business units in the area and added that they must have the initiative for their creation, be careful from approval to consolidation so that they work efficiently and correctly.

The inflationary situation of the country was among the problems discussed, and in this regard he emphasized the agreement of fair prices of healthy agricultural offers, which benefit producers and the population, and the firm and rigorous confrontation of overpricing and illegalities with the work of the Administration Councils.

The Cuban Vice President was also interested in the new structure assumed by the organs of the People’s Power, where he verified the completion of the positions, the fulfillment of the profiles for the posts, the availability of resources for the work and the satisfactory operation of each directorate.

Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the PCC and first secretary of that political organization in the province; Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of Holguín, and other political and governmental authorities participated in the exchange.
