Holguín ahead the start of the 2023-2024 school year

With the purpose of developing a comprehensive and participatory educational process, more than 140 thousand students from Holguin will begin this September 4th the 2023-2024 school year, in the 1,330 educational institutions of the province.

This will be the first standard academic period in the post-pandemic stage and will have 46 school weeks, where commitment must prevail in the face of the foreseen transformations.

In a recent exchange, the general director of Education in this province, Luis Felipe Batista Rodríguez, said that in Holguín the necessary organizational and logistic measures have been implemented, in a context marked by the difficult economic situation.

According to the director, teacher coverage for this school year is guaranteed up to 97.3 percent. Although it represents a high number, there is a shortage of more than 600 teachers, which is expected to be filled through the use of alternatives, especially in the provincial capital city, the largest affected.

“For this year, it is essential to promote teacher training. We must continue betting that our pedagogical schools provide us with continuity of Holguin teachers”.

Referring to the availability of the studying material and other goods for the next course, Batista Rodriguez said that the indispensable resources are guaranteed. He also highlighted with enthusiasm the upcoming implementation of the textbooks for the third improvement.

“The new books were elaborated taking into account the current context, a more efficient use of technology and more interactive learning methods, besides proposing exercise systems for the exchange between students and their families.”

Back to the classroom with new priorities

In the face of constant challenges, the educational sector in Holguin prioritizes ideological – political work, attention to the more than 10 thousand children in situations of vulnerability and job training.

“We will be implementing a new project in which each child must be linked to a form of production, that is to say, a vegetable garden, a plot of land, the plan from the school to the countryside with the objective of promoting the comprehensive education of our children, adolescents and young people.”

In an attempt to meet the demand for educational centers for Early Childhood, the opening of two new Day Care Centers was announced, a great motivation for the people of Holguin after 35 years without opening an institution of this type.

“These new institutions are going to have an approximate enrollment of 400 students and are located in the educational complexes Mayor General Calixto García and José Martí.

“Although the number is limited in the provincial capital city, we are looking for alternatives to increase enrollment and not leave any mother stranded,” concluded the director on his press conference on the new school year.
