Pastors for Peace Caravan was officially received at Plaza Mayor General Calixto García this Tuesday morning, July 18, after arriving in Holguin with a donation of more than two tons of medical supplies and medicines.
The Caravanistas were received by Yunia Pérez Hernandez, vice governor of Holguin province, accompanied by officials from the office of religious affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP for its Spanish acronym) and religious leaders in charge of coordinating this visit.
Gail Walker, executive director of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO), platform from which the U.S.-Cuba Friendship Caravans are organized, was recognized with the Coat of Arms of Holguín province for maintaining this link that defies Washington’s blockade and brings together the peoples of both nations, while the Caravan received the Axe of Holguin, symbol of our territory.
After this solemn reception, the caravan left for the coastal municipality of Gibara, where they will visit the General Hospital “Doctor Gustavo Aldereguía Lima”, carry out a voluntary work together with the workers of that health care center, and donate medical supplies and medicines.

As part of the visit, they will also exchange with local authorities about the implementation of the Tarea Vida – the Cuban State’s plan to face Climate Change and other environmental issues.
There will be an ecumenical worship with members of the religious society “Los Amigos” and a cultural gala of the Movement of Amateur Artists at the Municipal House of Culture, in addition to collateral activities at the Camp “Los Amigos Quáqueros” (Quakers), where they will stay during their visit to Holguín.
After fulfilling this agenda, the Caravanistas will travel to the province of Granma and finally will arrive in Santiago de Cuba, where they will visit sites of economic and social interest, hold meetings with owners of mypimes and participate in the ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the assaults on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.
For 30 years, the Pastors for Peace Caravan, founded by Reverend Lucius Walker and continued by his daughter Gail Walker, has acted as a solidarity project, which includes donations and calls on Americans to defy travel bans to the Caribbean archipelago, the normalization of relations between the two nations and demands the end of the US government blockade.
