Campismo Popular’s lodging capacities grow in Holguín

Campismo Popular’s lodging capacities grow in Holguín with the opening of Los Bajos camping site, located in the coastal area of the municipality of Gibara.

With this new installation, Campismo Popular company exceeds 1,500 lodging capacities in its 10 facilities currently in operation, which offer families a vacation stay in direct contact with nature.

This new tourist center of Campismo Popular provides 240 tent capacities and 26 comfortable rooms – with air-conditioning -, in addition to an extra-hotel network that guarantees gastronomic and recreational services.

The incorporation of Campismo Popular to the Ministry of Tourism in 2010 has facilitated a progressive investments with a repercussion in the improvement of its hotel infrastructure without losing the concept of integration with the natural environment.

Until 2019, this region of eastern Cuba had only five camping facilities -Silla de Gibara, Río Cabonico, Villa Cromita, Complejo Náutico-Vaquero and Villa Playa Blanca- which in total barely exceeded 500 lodging capacities.

But, taking into account that Holguin is one of the most populated regions in Cuba with more than one million inhabitants and that it has numerous landscape attractions, in the last three years four camping bases located in beach areas were added.

Two in the municipality of Antilla -Barrancones and Antillita-, one in Banes -Playa Morales- and another one in the jurisdcition of “Frank País” -Carenerito camping site- which incorporated 170 modern tents to the lodging network.

Likewise, as part of the tourism development program of the territory, the construction of the base located in Playa Caletones is progressing with high quality standards. Two other projects have also been approved: one in the territory of Moa, in the surroundings of Cayo Guam River and close to the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, and another in Mayarí in the areas of Playa Juan Vicente beach.

The province of Holguin, about 750 kilometers from Havana, has a great ecological richness that supports the growth and sustainability of the camping offers.

In July 1982, the Silla de Gibara, located in the north of Holguin’s geography at 260 meters above sea level, was the founding camping base of this tourist modality that is increasingly accepted by vacationers and that in turn favors the creation of new sources of employment.

The camping facilities are open all year round and are in high demand during the summer season.
