Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade with Cuba arrives in Holguin

Members of Puerto Rico’s Juan Rius Rivera Solidarity Brigade with Cuba arrived this Thursday in the city of Holguin to later travel to the province of Santiago de Cuba, where they will participate in the parade against the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the U.S. government, within the celebrations for July 26th, National Rebellion Day.

Solidarity Brigade members were received in Plaza Mayor General Calixto García by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, member of the Central Committee of the PCC and first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the province, and Manuel Hernández Aguilera, deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power and Governor of Holguín.

These days the solidarity brigade members will be in this province, where they will be sharing with people from different institutions, and cultural projects, as well as with new economic actors, according to Yunia Pérez Hernández, vice governor of Holguín.

Milagro Rivera Pérez, president of the Cuba-Puerto Rico solidarity committee, expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and stressed that “the most important thing to defeat the blockade is what we can do in our countries and for that we have to be informed, organized and fight actively.”

Puerto Rico has been an example of persecution by federal agencies for visiting Cuba, last year more than 70 brigadistas were intervened in an attempt to criminalize our solidarity and our visits to Cuba”.

Composed of a heterogeneous group of members of Puerto Rican society this solidarity brigade strengthens its bonds of friendship and its commitment to just causes, support in the fight against the U.S. blockade and the search for independence and sovereignty of Puerto Rico.
