The motto “Moncadistas, always ready” will guide first-grade children in Holguin. As they journey through the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM in the Spanish acronym), which they officially joined on October 8th.

The provincial ceremony took place at the monument honoring Commander Ernesto Che Guevara in the city of Holguin. Also where students from the Dalquis Sánchez Pupo day-boarding school and the Tony Alomá primary school received their blue neckerchiefs.

Also the moving ceremony—held as part of the tribute to the “Heroic Guerrilla” (Che Guevara) and Camilo Cienfuegos. It was presided over by Joel Queipo Ruíz, a member of the Central Committee and First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the province. Alongside government officials and OPJM leaders at both provincial and municipal levels.

Parents accompanied the children on this joyous day. Celebrating the entry of these “new pines” (young generation) into one of the Cuban educational system’s most emblematic institutions.

During the event, the new pioneers received their insignia. With it, they begin a phase of acquiring knowledge and participating in cultural, sports, and recreational activities. All while fostering a sense of belonging, responsibility toward their community, and a commitment to defending the Homeland.

Orlando Tito Hernández, provincial president of the OPJM, congratulated the group of pioneers and urged them to live up to the oath they had just sworn. Furthermore, he stated that the organization follows Che’s enduring example as a model for the holistic development of its members. Reaffirmed that this generation grows stronger each day in the face of adversity. Drawing sustenance from the revolutionary spirit found in every Cuban who loves and defends their homeland.

Starting today, first-grade students across the Holguin region will wear the blue neckerchief in their schools. Reaffirming their commitment to their studies and to becoming upstanding individuals. The future torchbearers of Cuba’s social, cultural, and economic endeavors.
